Create a Time boxed task, where a task has a
defined start and defined end. For example, a company has a fiscal year
starts on Oct 1 and ends on Sep 30. In order to keep this resource loaded
task not to deviate from fixed start and fixed finish, try the
following.

1.
Open your Project
using Microsoft
Project 2010 (which is configured to Project Server)

Select Project Center on Quick
Launch menu on left side
·
Find your Schedule, and
Click on schedule icon on the indicator column
·
Microsoft Project Pro
opens with selected schedule.

2.
Select all Tasks and go to Task Information screen
·
Highlight all tasks except summary
tasks
·
Right click and select Information (Task
Information)
·
In Advanced Tab, Select Task Type as Fixed Duration, Select Calendar as Standard and Check on Scheduling ignores Resource Calendars. This setting prevents any duration/end date change due to resources
entering vacation hours in Project Server Timesheets.

Ensure Effort driven or Mark task as
milestone boxed are neither checked nor filled.
·
Click OK
·
You should see a notepad icon with a
calendar appears. A mouse over should say

3.
Verify Actual Start date for any task
·
Insert a Column Actual
Start
·
Enter Actual Start as a
10/1/2015. This will prevent the change in the fixed duration. Resources can
enter their actual work hours in Project Server timesheet as they complete
the work.

4.
Adjust Duration accordingly so that the end date is
9/30/2016
·
For example, if Actual
Start recorded as 10/1/2015, then change the duration to 252 days to have end
date as 9/30/2016

5. Save, Publish
and Check-in the Project Schedule
·
Select File > Save Wait for the Prompt in Status bar in the
bottom of the screen displays Save Job 100% complete
·
Select File >Publish Wait for the Prompt in Status bar in the
bottom of the screen displays Publish Job 100% complete
·
Select File > Close
·
Select OK to check in the
Project
